The 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO-2025) has begun at Sirius. Teams from 24 countries will demonstrate their knowledge of chemistry, physics, and biology.
Russia, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Costa Rica and other states have sent their national teams to Sirius.
This year, the organisers of the Olympiad have applied a fundamentally different approach to preparing the tasks.
“Whereas traditionally the tasks were created independently for the three subjects – physics, chemistry and biology – this year the emphasis has been placed on interdisciplinary knowledge at the intersection of these subjects. Our industrial partners were integrated into the task-setting process so that the problems would be not theoretical but practical in nature,” said Elena Shmeleva, Head of the Sirius Educational Centre and Chair of the Council of the Sirius Federal Territory.
The International Junior Science Olympiad includes three rounds. Each participant will receive an individual workstation with everything necessary: computers with software for theoretical tasks and equipment for practical team research. All tasks are completed in English.
In addition, this year the Olympiad is being held in parallel with the Congress of Young Scientists – a significant event in the field of science and technology. During the breaks between the rounds, school students will visit the congress venues, where they will meet scientists and representatives of Russia’s leading science and technology companies. This is a unique opportunity for young talents to see the most significant achievements of modern science and to meet professionals from different countries.
The prize-winners and winners of the Olympiad will be determined in individual and team standings. Special awards from the event’s partners are also planned.
The International Junior Science Olympiad is the world’s only multidisciplinary competition for school students aged 15 and under. It has been held since 2004, and Russia is hosting it for the first time. The Olympiad runs from 23 November to 2 December.
TV BRICS is acting as the international media partner of the Olympiad.
