Margareth Menezes, Minister of Culture, emphasised that hosting the festival reinforces Brazil’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity.
“By hosting the BRICS Film Festival, Brazil reaffirms its commitment to promoting diversity and expanding opportunities for Brazilian audiovisual production. Culture is a force that brings peoples together […],” she stated.
The Brazilian edition of the festival aims to boost co-productions, foster cultural exchanges, and consolidate cinema as a point of connection between public policies and cultural development, encouraging collaboration and innovation in the sector.
“By bringing together countries of the Global South around their cinematographies, we expand the internationalisation of the sector and strengthen networks of strategic cooperation. This is a tangible contribution of Brazil’s BRICS presidency towards building lasting partnerships within the group,” emphasised Bruno Rodrigues, Head of the Special Advisory on International Affairs of the Brazilian Ministry.
Hosting the Film Festival in Brazil is part of the initiatives of the 10th meeting of BRICS culture ministers in Brasilia, during Brazil’s temporary presidency of the group.
