Rio de Janeiro ranks among the world’s top destinations for 2026

Rio de Janeiro has been recognised as one of the 25 best destinations in the world to visit in 2026, as reported by the
official website of Brazil’s Ministry of Tourism with reference to the annual Best of the World list.

According to the Ministry, the inclusion of Rio de Janeiro reinforces the country’s growing prominence in global tourism. Officials note that the ranking reflects recent efforts to strengthen tourist infrastructure, expand air connectivity and elevate Brazil’s profile as a leading travel destination.

The guide describes Rio as a major South American metropolis and highlights its most emblematic attractions, including Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and the city’s renowned beaches. It also draws attention to the renewed momentum of Rio’s cultural sector, marked by the reopening of several major museums and expanded opportunities for cultural tourism.

The publication further notes that Rio is increasingly establishing itself as a culinary destination, driven by a new wave of gastronomy that blends tradition and contemporary creativity.

Recent travel trends also point to Rio’s leadership during peak holiday periods. A survey covering August to October 2025 shows Brazil as the most searched-for destination worldwide for journeys planned between late December 2025 and early January 2026. Within Brazil, coastal destinations remain the most sought after, with Rio leading national searches. International interest has grown as well, with Rio once again topping the list among foreign visitors researching travel to Brazil.
