Nigeria approves 4,000 telecom towers for digital inclusion

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the installation of 4,000 telecommunications towers across Nigeria to expand access to digital technologies in low-income communities. This is reported by
NAN, a partner of TV BRICS.

Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris Malagi announced the decision based on a joint memorandum. This initiative targets communities with a lack of basic digital capabilities. According to the Minister, limited access to technology hinders economic development, local trade and basic communication in remote areas.

“There is also an approval by FEC granted to the Ministry of Digital Communications and the Ministry of Finance to establish service centres for agricultural mechanisation and digital economy on the deployment of towers to places that are currently underserved,” he stated.

The Minister added that the Federal Electricity Commission has also approved the creation of service centres for agricultural mechanisation. These centres will be located in six geopolitical zones to encourage year-round farming.

The source said that the Minister clarified that these decisions are in line with the medium-term expenditure plan previously presented by the Ministers of Finance and Budget.
