Venezuela joins international remote sensing course in India

Venezuela is participating in the 15th Course on Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing for Geoscientists, held at the Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) in Hyderabad. This is reported by
BRICS Lat, a partner of TV BRICS.

The course is organised under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme and aims to strengthen South–South cooperation in geosciences supported by satellite technologies. Specialists from various countries are taking part, including Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Egypt and Ethiopia.

The training focuses on modern remote sensing methods and digital image analysis used to study geological processes and support natural resource exploration. Experts emphasised that technological sovereignty depends not only on access to satellites but also on a country’s capacity to independently interpret and analyse satellite data for informed decision-making.

The source states that the acquired skills are expected to improve the identification of strategic resources such as oil, fertile soils, and deposits of coltan and gold, while reducing exploration areas and increasing the accuracy of field operations.

Upon completion of the course, Venezuela plans to enhance the use of satellite data in the mining, energy and defence sectors, as well as in disaster risk monitoring. The training will also support more effective use of the country’s Miranda (VRSS-1) and Sucre (VRSS-2) satellites for territorial monitoring, land-use planning and natural resource management.
