Vietnam and Brazil are expanding cooperation in smart agriculture, with a focus on digital technologies and sustainable value chains. The topic was discussed at a recent hybrid seminar hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Brazil, which brought together more than 50 representatives from government agencies, research institutions, industry associations, and businesses from both countries. Vietnam’s Ambassador to Brazil Bui Van Nghi noted the country’s strong economic performance, with GDP expected to exceed US$510 billion this year and exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products approaching US$70 billion. He said Vietnam’s transformation into a leading global exporter of products such as rice, coffee and seafood has been driven by digital agriculture solutions, including drones, smart sensors and blockchain-based traceability, which have boosted productivity and reduced costs.
According to the ambassador, Vietnam–Brazil relations entered a strategic phase after being upgraded to a strategic partnership in November 2024. Bilateral trade currently stands at around US$8 billion, with both sides aiming to reach US$15 billion by 2030. Against the backdrop of climate change, resource constraints and stricter food safety standards, smart agriculture and sustainable value chains have become a priority area for long-term cooperation.
Brazilian officials confirmed their readiness to share advanced solutions in artificial intelligence, agricultural sensors, gene editing, and precision farming. Strengthening cooperation between Brazil’s Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and Vietnamese partners was highlighted as a key step toward effective technology transfer.
Experts also outlined joint projects leveraging the complementary strengths of both countries, including cooperation in rice cultivation, agricultural processing, and medicinal plants, underlining the practical potential of Vietnam–Brazil collaboration in smart agriculture.
