India to introduce visa-free entry for citizens of Kazakhstan

India has announced the introduction of visa-free entry for citizens of Kazakhstan, marking a new step towards strengthening people-to-people contacts and expanding bilateral cooperation. This is reported by

The announcement was made in Astana during an official reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of India’s Republic Day. Speaking at the event, India’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Sailas Thangal, outlined key priorities in bilateral relations and confirmed the decision to grant free short-term visas to Kazakh nationals.

According to the ambassador, the Indian government will provide citizens of Kazakhstan with free visas for stays of up to 30 days. The visa-free regime will apply to tourism, medical treatment and accompanying persons.

“In order to encourage bilateral tourism, the Government of India has decided to grant citizens of Kazakhstan free visas for a period of up to 30 days,” the ambassador said.

He clarified that visas can be obtained either online or through direct application at the Embassy of India.

The diplomat also highlighted growing tourism exchanges between the two countries. According to Indian estimates, around 250,000 Indian nationals visited Kazakhstan in 2025, reflecting increasing mutual interest in travel and cultural engagement.

In his remarks, the ambassador emphasised India’s economic trajectory, noting that the country is currently the world’s fourth-largest economy and among the fastest growing globally. He pointed to strong performance in information technology, artificial intelligence, fintech, pharmaceuticals and digital infrastructure.

Special attention was given to the strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan. The two countries actively cooperate within multilateral platforms, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS, the United Nations and the India–Central Asia dialogue format.

The ambassador also noted that bilateral trade currently stands at around US$1 billion while stressing that the potential for further expansion remains significant.

Concluding his speech, Sailas Thangal congratulated guests on India’s Republic Day and expressed confidence that relations between India and Kazakhstan will continue to strengthen across multiple sectors.
