Iran eases agricultural import rules to boost food security and support traders

Iran has eased restrictions on agricultural imports as part of broader reforms aimed at improving subsidy efficiency and ensuring stable supplies of essential food products. This is reported by
Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

The Ministry of Agriculture announced that the previous requirement for traders to register orders before importing goods has been removed. Importers can now procure and declare agricultural goods at customs first, after which the ministry completes the order registration. This change applies to both livestock feed and key staple products, including rice, meat, and cooking oil, allowing any trader with a valid commercial card to import these goods under the revised rules.

Strategic reserves of essential goods have been secured to meet demand during the Nowruz holidays, with coordinated plans for production and imports ensuring no disruption in supply. Furthermore, regulations now allow exporters to meet foreign exchange obligations through commodity barter, enabling agricultural, industrial, and mining exporters to import essential goods in exchange for their exports, which counts as fulfilment of currency obligations.

Authorities noted that additional adjustments to trade policies may follow as part of ongoing efforts to align import regulations with the new currency framework, reflecting a comprehensive approach to securing food supplies and supporting both traders and domestic producers.
