United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has completed preparations for the pilot phase of a project introducing autonomous vehicles on its campus. The initiative is being implemented in coordination with the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport, which oversees regulatory compliance to ensure the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
The project aims to advance innovative systems and deploy sustainable mobility solutions that enhance daily life on campus. The ITC is providing a clear regulatory framework to ensure that the proposed technologies align with leading international practices in smart transport and future mobility.
Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Director of UAEU, said the initiative reflects the university’s commitment to using innovation to improve the educational environment. He described the project as a strong example of public–private partnership, linking academic research with real-world application while helping to create a smarter and more efficient campus ecosystem.
Expert noted that the project supports Abu Dhabi’s efforts to accelerate the safe adoption of autonomous mobility systems. He highlighted the important role universities play in providing realistic testing environments that contribute to policy development and the building of national expertise in this strategic sector.
According to the
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS, the project goes beyond transportation. It will serve as an advanced research platform for collecting operational data and conducting real-world trials, supporting the development of autonomous public transport solutions and strengthening the country’s infrastructure and regulatory readiness for future technologies.
