Belarus is planning to double its exports of peat products to China, aiming to significantly expand both shipment volumes and the range of goods supplied to the Chinese market over the coming years, as reported by
BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to official information from the country’s energy sector, peat exports have become one of the most practical examples of Belarus–China economic cooperation. Initial deliveries to China began in 2019–2020, after Belarusian producers completed registration with China’s customs authorities and obtained official supplier status.
Since 2022, export operations have shown steady growth, supported by institutional cooperation frameworks and diplomatic engagement. According to the source, the next phase of development, covering 2026 to 2030, envisages a twofold increase in export volumes as well as the inclusion of value-added peat products, including items produced through deeper processing.
In 2025, Belarus supplied approximately 26,900 tonnes of peat products to China, with export revenues estimated at around US$2.4 million. Chinese buyers have shown particular interest in high-moor peat and peat-based substrates that meet specific physical and chemical standards required for agricultural and horticultural use.
Experts note that demand is driven by China’s growing focus on modern agriculture, soil improvement and sustainable cultivation technologies, where peat products play a key role.
Between 2023 and 2025, Belarusian peat producers strengthened ties with existing and potential partners by participating in international exhibitions and business forums held in both Belarus and China.
