President Cyril Ramaphosa says there are no plans to permanently deploy members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to work with the police.
Currently, over 500 SANDF members are deployed in Gauteng to help the police fight gang-related crimes and illegal mining.
Fielding questions from MPs in Parliament, Ramaphosa said the soldiers are a force multiplier to free police to do their investigations.
He said once they have stabilised the areas that they are deployed in, they will leave.
