The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) has published the model health certificate for Brazilian products in its electronic system. Brazilian producers can now begin registering in the China Import Food Enterprise Registration (CIFER) system, a mandatory requirement for exporting frozen fruit and fruit purée to China. The information was published on the
official website of the Government of Brazil.
The procedure applies to products made from fruit varieties that have already been recognised by the Chinese authorities as safe for human consumption. These include acai, mango, guava, pineapple, passion fruit, and other approved fruits.
Registration in the CIFER system is carried out directly by the exporting company, which is also responsible for submitting all the required documentation to the Chinese authorities. Once the application is approved, the GACC assigns the exporter a unique registration number. Without this number, products cannot be imported into the Chinese market.
Each shipment of frozen fruit and fruit puree must be accompanied by an official health certificate. The format of this document has been agreed between the two countries.
Fruit varieties that have not yet been recognised by the Chinese authorities as food products remain subject to a separate regulatory procedure. Such products are assessed in accordance with China’s legislation governing novel foods.
Meanwhile, South Africa is also expanding its fruit exports to China. In 2025, the country exported approximately 11.5 million boxes of citrus fruit, representing around 6 per cent of its total citrus exports. South Africa has also secured expanded access to the Chinese market for stone fruit, including apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums and prunes, following the conclusion of a duty-free trade agreement.
