Indonesia and India are entering a new stage of digital cooperation by expanding their partnership in artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on joint research, technological innovation, digital infrastructure and skills development, as reported by

The announcement was made by Nezar Patria, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, during the presentation of the country’s AI Roadmap in Jakarta.
According to the deputy minister, Indonesia and India possess complementary strengths that can support the development of advanced AI technologies and digital public infrastructure. He stressed that cooperation between the two countries is based on shared opportunities.
He noted that Indonesia’s AI Roadmap provides a strategic framework for translating bilateral cooperation into practical initiatives, supporting the country’s ambition to become an active developer of artificial intelligence technologies rather than solely a consumer.
The government is strengthening key elements of the national digital ecosystem, including software development, computing capacity, data centres and the training of highly skilled digital professionals.
Indonesia also aims to leverage its strategic advantages for AI development, including abundant reserves of critical minerals, a young workforce and its location at the heart of the Indo-Pacific region.
Momentum for closer bilateral cooperation increased following the recent state visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Indonesia, during which the two countries concluded 16 bilateral agreements covering a range of strategic sectors.
Alongside AI research, Indonesia and India are also advancing cooperation in the digital economy through initiatives aimed at improving digital connectivity and expanding the use of digital public infrastructure.
Officials believe that stronger collaboration in artificial intelligence, innovation and research will contribute to sustainable economic development, technological resilience and the creation of new opportunities for both countries, while supporting Indonesia’s long-term Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
