Vietnam accelerates smart tourism with AI and digital services

Hanoi is expanding the use of digital technologies in tourism, from trip planning and ticketing to visitor services and destination management to improve the quality of travel experiences and support more efficient tourism management. This was reported by
Vietnam News Agency (VNA), a partner of TV BRICS.

At a museum in Vietnam, a robot receptionist has been greeting visitors since June. It can answer questions about artworks and artefacts, provide information and create tour routes based on the time available to each visitor. Other attractions have introduced automated audio guides and electronic ticketing.

Digital technologies are also being used to create new ways of exploring Hanoi. Virtual reality and digital maps are available at several sites. Tourists can also use digital services to book accommodation, order meals and arrange transport.

According to experts, the city plans to complete its digital tourism platform by 2030. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute of Tourism Economics, has proposed establishing a tourism data centre to bring together information on destinations, events, visitor behaviour and feedback. Artificial intelligence could then be used for forecasting visitor flows, market analysis, multilingual assistance and tourism promotion.

The city is also working to connect tourism databases, heritage sites, craft villages and tourism products through a unified digital ecosystem. Nguyen Tran Quang, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism, said Hanoi is accelerating smart tourism development in line with its destination concept of being “Safe – Friendly – Quality – Attractive – Smart”. The initiative is expected to support the capital’s tourism sector and contribute to the development of its creative economy.
