Iran opens first integrated government centre for diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has opened the first integrated university and government centre for the diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer at a local hospital, in a move aimed at expanding paediatric oncology services and reducing the financial burden on families. This was reported by Nour News, a partner of TV BRICS.

Reza Raeeskarami, President of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, noted that the project represents a significant turning point in the field of paediatric cancer treatment in Iran, explaining that the private sector had been the sole provider of such services prior to the opening of the new centre.

He also stated that the centre had begun operations despite some of its departments, including the radiotherapy department, not yet being fully completed, emphasising that the completion of the project would make all its services accessible to the public.

The opening of the centre forms part of two projects announced by the university; one has now entered the operational phase, whilst construction work on the second project has begun, with a view to its completion as soon as possible to serve the public.
