Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and implementing joint projects during a meeting on the sidelines of the eighth summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which was held in the Russian capital. This was reported by
IRNA, a TV BRICS partner.
Vladimir Putin noted that Russia–Iran trade increased by 10.4 per cent in the first eight months of 2026. The head of state emphasised that Russia is fulfilling all of its commitments under all projects launched jointly with Iran.
“Construction of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant continues. We are also cooperating in the humanitarian sphere; the number of Iranian students studying at our universities, for example, has reached about 10,000. In late September and early October, a series of vibrant events was held in various Russian cities as part of the Iranian Culture Festival – namely, in Moscow, Kazan and Astrakhan,” the Russian President said, according to the
Kremlin website.
Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its continued political support and economic cooperation. He stated that the two countries could expand their partnership in the scientific, economic, industrial and cultural spheres.
“Our Russian colleagues asked for a festival of Russian culture to be held in Tehran. […] I have instructed that this be expedited; the response is positive; […] it remains only to finalise this process as a matter of routine,” the Iranian President said.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, stated that Tehran and Moscow had never cooperated as closely as they do now.
