A team from China is preparing to build the fifth Antarctic research base

This is one of the main tasks of scientific 40th expedition of China

A team of 32 scientists arrived at the site where the station will be located. They inspected the temporary buildings and equipment and found that everything is in good condition. This is reported by China Daily, a partner of TV BRICS. Starting up the machinery and clearing the roads will begin soon. The new station will be able to accommodate 80 people in the summer and 30 people in the winter.

It will be China’s third permanent Antarctic base after Changcheng and Zhongshan stations. The 40th expedition will work on three main tasks: building a new research station, studying the impact of climate change on Antarctic ecology and expanding international co-operation.
