The UAE capital is set to host the World Kickboxing Championship (Masters and Seniors) this year. The major international tournament is taking place outside Europe for the first time, according to the
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The event will run from 21 to 30 November, bringing together 2,000 athletes from 150 countries. Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, President of the Asian and Arab Muay Thai Federations and President of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, said the decision to stage the competition was made possible thanks to the continued support of the country’s leadership.
Ali Khoury, a board member of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, noted that the Abu Dhabi championship represents a new milestone in the history of the sport, while its debut in an Arab nation reflects the UAE’s exceptional status.
The global sporting landscape is witnessing a growing trend of expanding the geography of major international competitions. A recent example was the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships, held for the first time in Latin America, in Rio de Janeiro, with more than 300 gymnasts from 78 countries taking part, reports
Agência Brasil, a partner of TV BRICS.
Meanwhile, Asian nations are also strengthening their sporting position: Iran’s youth judo team claimed nine medals to win the Asian Cup, with both the boys’ and girls’ squads taking championship titles, according to
Alalam News Network, a TV BRICS partner.
