African National Congress (ANC) Deputy President Paul Mashatile says the party has always been open to working with other political formations in the government of national unity (GNU).
Mashatile spoke to the media after a Good Friday service hosted by Amandla Ngawethu Universal Church at Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, Gauteng.
His comments come as Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) member Nkululeko Dunga was appointed as the Gauteng MEC of Finance, raising questions about whether the ANC is looking at replicating the same model at the national level.
Mashatile says the possibility of working with parties like the EFF and uMkhonto weSizwe (MKP) in the GNU will always remain open.
“We will work with all parties that are committed to saving South Africa, and we will not discriminate. So, if they engage us about other areas, we will look into that. But as you know, in KwaZulu-Natal, they’ve got their own coalition as we speak, which is the IFP, the ANC, and others. But we are okay that in Gauteng, they’ve been able to find one another with the EFF, and we support that.”
