Archaeologists conclude new season of excavations at medieval necropolis near Suzdal

The Suzdal expedition of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Historical Museum has summed up the results of the sixth season of research at the medieval Gnezdilovo burial ground in the Suzdal district. This is reported by the official
website of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This season, archaeologists explored an area of about 2,400 square metres and uncovered 13 new burials from the late 10th to early 12th centuries. Among them are male, female and child burials with jewellery and household items. Of particular interest were the finds of beads made of Middle Eastern glass from the 9th–10th centuries, which are rarely found in the region.

A unique find was a female burial with rich silver jewellery, necklaces and pendants made of Eastern and Western European coins.
