Area of planted forests in China reaches 87 million hectares

This is according to a report by the National Greening Commission

China has conducted 96 major national projects to protect and restore important ecological systems and 25 trial and demonstration projects on greening land, a significant achievement in 2023.

Zhang Wei, head of the ecological protection and restoration department of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration (NFGA), said China continues to successfully implement greening and forest expansion programmes. The area of planted forests has reached 87.6 million hectares, ranking China first in the world. This is reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

Academician Liu Shirong from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) emphasised that China has made significant contributions to greening the planet over the past two decades.

“China plays an important role in greening the planet and its commitment extends to every possible area,” said Liu Shirong.
