ASEAN launches AI Safety Network to guide ethical innovation
ASEAN is launching the ASEAN AI Safety Network (AI Safe) to encourage ethical AI development, standardise safety protocols, and deepen regional collaboration.
The initiative, unveiled by ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, highlights the bloc’s commitment to promoting transparency, trust, and accountability in AI, as reported by
BERNAMA, a TV BRICS partner.
Kao stressed the importance of international partnerships, including with China, under the ASEAN-China 2025 Digital Work Plan. He urged immediate global cooperation to ensure AI supports human well-being. In this context, he welcomed the establishment of the China-ASEAN AI Centre, designed to guide responsible AI deployment across the region.
The Secretary-General also praised the China-ASEAN Digital Academy for helping bridge digital skill gaps, particularly for small businesses and underserved communities. He concluded with a call for stronger collaboration among governments, industry, and academia to ensure AI remains inclusive, ethical, and sustainable – driving shared growth and innovation across the region.
