Authorities in Nigeria’s Lagos State announce plans for digital transformation and reconstruction

The regional government aims to transform Lagos into a technologically advanced and progressive state

The Lagos State government in Nigeria is actively promoting urban development initiatives aimed at modernising infrastructure and fostering economic growth. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Geographic Information System and Urban Development, Olajide Babatunde, outlined plans to transform the state into a modern 21st-century megapolis. His statement was reported by the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a partner of TV BRICS.

Among the key initiatives is the reconstruction of several local markets. Babatunde noted that one of them will be transformed into a modern shopping mall with a cinema and international brands. Additionally, a commercial centre with residential and hotel complexes is currently under construction, and logistics hubs are being developed in the cities of Epe and Ikorodu. He also mentioned that road projects are actively being implemented.

Babatunde further emphasised that the state government is introducing digital technologies. In particular, land registries and land-use billing systems are being automated.

Moreover, authorities are working on a new urban development policy and building regulations to ensure sustainable economic growth in cities. In the agricultural sector, farming hubs and settlements are being established to enhance food security.
