Brazil and Saudi Arabia have formalised a new memorandum of understanding aimed at broadening bilateral cooperation in mineral resources, reinforcing technical exchange, investment flows and joint development of strategic minerals critical to the global energy transition. This is reported by the official website of Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The agreement was signed in Riyadh by the ministers responsible for mining and energy portfolios in both countries and follows intensified diplomatic engagement between Brazil and Middle Eastern partners. The memorandum will remain in force for five years and establishes a framework for collaboration in geology, mineral exploration, mining operations and resource evaluation.
Under the agreement, the two sides plan to promote the exchange of specialists, implement joint training programmes and facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies used in geological surveys and mineral processing. The document also encourages investment cooperation in line with national legislation, including participation in exploration and mining licensing opportunities.
A key element of the memorandum is the proposal to establish a Brazil–Saudi Arabia Mining Investment Alliance, designed to support cooperation in exploration, processing and value addition of strategic minerals. The initiative is expected to involve close coordination with public institutions and to prioritise sustainable use of mineral resources and environmental impact mitigation.
The partnership places particular emphasis on minerals linked to the energy transition, as well as cooperation in research, development and innovation. Plans also include collaboration on logistics infrastructure supporting mining activities and continued dialogue on financial mechanisms and investment funds for the sector.
The agreement strengthens Brazil–Saudi Arabia relations and reflects a shared commitment to long-term cooperation in mineral security, sustainable development and the advancement of energy transition goals.
