Brazil could become world’s largest food exporter by end of 2026

Brazil could become the world’s largest food exporter by the end of 2026, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin announced during a ceremony marking the opening of 700 new international markets for Brazilian agricultural products.

Speaking at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Alckmin highlighted the expansion of agricultural trade as a major contributor to employment, investment and economic development, Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS, reports.

“We expect to become the world’s largest food exporter by the end of the year. This means jobs, income, growing businesses, a growing economy and better employment opportunities for people,” the Vice-President said.

According to Alckmin, Brazil’s expanding access to international markets reflects progress in agricultural production standards, animal and plant health controls, and diplomatic efforts to strengthen trade relations.

He noted that Brazil had transformed its agricultural sector over the past six decades, moving from a food-importing country to a major supplier to international markets.

The Vice-President also emphasised the importance of opening new export destinations for Brazilian fishery products, alongside other agricultural commodities.

“Foreign trade is essential for our growth,” Alckmin stated, highlighting the contribution of international demand to the development of Brazilian industries. He also emphasised measures to improve trade efficiency, including the federal government’s unified digital portal for imports and exports, designed to simplify administrative procedures and facilitate international commerce.
