Brazil invests over US$2.4 million in bioeconomy training for Legal Amazon workers

Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) has allocated over US$2.4 million to state institutions through the National Programme for Access to Technical Education and Employment (Pronatec).

According to the MEC’s
website, this funding aims to provide professional training courses in the Legal Amazon, focusing on bioeconomy sectors, with programmes set to run until December 2026.

The initiative aims to benefit 6,500 workers across eight states: Acre, Amazonas, Amap, Maranhao, Mato Grosso, Para, Rondonia, and Tocantins. Over 30 courses are available, including roles such as acai grower, agroforestry farmer, coffee grower, tour guide, fruit grower, and forest identifier.

These programmes are delivered by various educational institutions, including the State Institute of Professional and Technological Education (IEPTEC) in Acre and the Amazonas Centre for Technological Education (Cetam) in Amazonas.

Marcelo Bregagnoli, Secretary of Professional and Technological Education, explained that the courses aim to leverage the region’s economic potential, establish populations in the area, promote the proper management of the exploitation of the region’s diverse native species.
