Brazil takes over MERCOSUR chairmanship at summit in Argentina
At the 66th MERCOSUR summit in Buenos Aires, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva took over the presidency of the bloc for the next six months. The summit was attended by the leaders of the group’s member countries – Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay – as well as Bolivia, which is in the process of joining, and observer countries.
In his speech, Lula outlined the key priorities of the new presidency: expanding trade within the bloc and with external partners, promoting energy transition and combating climate change, developing technology, reducing social inequalities, and others.
Green economy issues are also on the agenda: Brazil plans to promote the Green MERCOSUR programme to support sustainable agriculture and launch common standards in the field of sustainable development. This is reported by

In the technological sphere, Lula highlighted the task of creating its own data centres, developing digital sovereignty and transforming MERCOSUR into a centre for healthcare technologies.
