According to the 2025 Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index, presented by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean together with Chile’s National Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA), Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile have become the regional leaders in the implementation of this technology. The report was published by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
The index classifies countries into three categories: leaders, active adopters, and researchers. Experts note that the region accounts for 14 per cent of global requests for artificial intelligence solutions.
The new report covers 19 Latin American countries. Eight of them, including Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, are also narrowing the gap with the leaders by developing infrastructure, attracting talent, and introducing national strategies. At the same time, more than one-third of the states remain at an early stage of AI development, with a still-forming ecosystem.
The report emphasises that to strengthen Latin America’s competitiveness, it is necessary to invest in human resources, infrastructure and innovation, as well as to ensure effective regulation in the field of AI.
