The Brazilian Senate has approved a bill establishing a programme to develop fertiliser production, according to
Agência Brasil.
The bill provides for tax incentives and financing mechanisms for companies that produce fertilisers and the necessary equipment.
Brazil is one of the world’s largest consumers of fertilisers. According to the National Association for Fertilisers Diffusion (ANDA), in 2025 the country imported 43.3 million tonnes of intermediate fertilisers, the main ones being potassium chloride, urea and monoammonium phosphate.
Nitrogen, phosphorus and potash fertilisers are essential for agriculture, as they provide plants with nutrients and help to increase crop yields. They are widely used in the cultivation of soya beans, maize, sugar cane and other crops.
The new programme is intended to help Brazil increase its own fertiliser production, attract investment and strengthen the national industry.
