Business representatives outline Africa-focused recommendations through G20 track

Business 20 (B20) South Africa has submitted a set of policy recommendations to G20 governments, urging measures to boost infrastructure development, job creation, SME empowerment, industrialisation, and digital inclusion across the continent. This is reported by IOL.

B20, the official business dialogue forum of the G20, prepared the proposals with contributions from business leaders across Africa.

“These recommendations […] form a blueprint for the transformation from financing infrastructure to securing food system from climate resilience to digital inclusion, and from mineral extraction to industrialisation,” said Mxolisi Mgojo, Chairperson of B20.

The recommendations focus on unlocking large-scale investment, expanding bankable projects, and ensuring capital flows generate tangible economic impact. They also call for advancing energy transition efforts, accelerating industrialisation, and strengthening resilient energy infrastructure.

Business leaders highlighted opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), stressing the need for “deeper collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat to ensure investment efforts are coherent” and sustainable.

South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, received the proposals on behalf of President Cyril Ramaphosa. He stressed the importance of critical minerals in the global energy transition.

“It is estimated that this transition will require 3 billion tons of minerals and metals to deploy solar, wind, and geothermal energy. It is also against this background that South Africa and all its participation in multi-lateral forum emphasise the issue of value addition for critical minerals,” Lamola said.
