Businesses in one of Egypt’s tourist regions is required to obtain green certificate

A similar initiative was implemented in Sharm el-Sheikh in 2022

Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa has issued a decree obliging all participants in the hospitality sector in the Red Sea governorate (governorate) to obtain a green certificate confirming the involvement of their business in environmentally friendly practices. This is reported by
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

The publication notes that the initiative is part of the ministry’s strategy to transform Egypt’s tourism sector. The project aims to improve the quality of hospitality services and their compliance with environmental standards. Businesses subject to the decree are given six months to comply with the requirements.

The document is in line with the ministry’s Sustainable Development Strategy and the Egypt Vision 2030 programme, stressing the importance of protecting the environment, promoting a green economy and integrating sustainability into all aspects of operations, the publication said.
