CEO of analytical centre highlights importance of Malaysia’s participation in BRICS Summit

The expert believes the country will make a meaningful contribution to the meeting’s agenda

The BRICS Summit, taking place as Malaysia holds the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), promises to be a significant event – especially in the context of shared priorities with Brazil, which is chairing the BRICS group this year. This was stated by Danial Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of the Asian Strategy and Leadership Incorporated (ASLI), in an exclusive interview with
BERNAMA News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to him, the themes of inclusivity and sustainability, highlighted by both countries as key priorities, enable Malaysia to make a valuable contribution to the BRICS Summit agenda. The country will be able to present its approaches to building an inclusive and just society, he added.

“The BRICS Summit gives Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim an opportunity to highlight the importance and central role of ASEAN, as well as demonstrate its contribution to strengthening peace and security,” Rahman said.

The expert noted that this will be the first BRICS Summit in which Malaysia will participate as a partner country of the group. The ASLI CEO expressed the view that the meeting’s outcome may bring progress in developing mechanisms for settlements in national currencies. In his opinion, this will create fairer financial and trade conditions for developing nations.

The BRICS Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on 6–7 July and will be the main event of Brazil’s chairmanship of the group.
