Chile to host UN Geoparks Conference in geological conservation and sustainable tourism

Chile is set to host the 11th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks from the 8th to the 12th of September. The event will convene approximately one thousand participants in Kutralkura, the sole Chilean geosite recognised by UNESCO, as reported by
Crónica Digital, a partner of TV BRICS.

Geoparks are unique regions recognised for their internationally significant geological heritage. These sites combine the protection of geological assets with the promotion of sustainable economic development, scientific research, and educational tourism. Currently, there are 229 UNESCO-designated geoparks across 50 countries.

The five-day conference will provide a platform for delegates to discuss the latest research, insights, and practical experiences related to a wide range of topics. The agenda includes geological research, conservation strategies, sustainable tourism practices, and the role of geoparks in fostering community engagement.
