China, India, Iran and Egypt may join BRICS Marathon League

The organisers plan to continue working on the international promotion of the league until 2030

The BRICS Marathon League is planned to be launched in Russia in 2024 on the basis of three competitions: “Kazan Marathon”, “Moscow Marathon” and St. Petersburg “White Nights”, which will be brought under a single standard.

In 2025, China, India, Iran and Egypt will be invited to participate in the BRICS Marathon. The organisers plan to continue working on the international promotion of the league until 2030. During this time it may include up to 10 BRICS countries.

Kirill Kozhevnikov, deputy director of the Department of Education, Science and International Relations of the Russian Ministry of Sport, said that China and Brazil are showing interest in the project. He added that each sports minister in the BRICS countries has a presentation on the Marathon League.

The league is expected to be launched at the Kazan Marathon on 11-12 May. More than 10,000 people have already confirmed their participation. This is reported by
Business Online.

In November 2023, Russia at a meeting of sports ministers of the alliance made a proposal to establish the BRICS Marathon League. The project envisages uniting the most large-scale races of the BRICS countries into a single series of competitions.
