China sets record with 888 million domestic trips and 2.43 billion cross-regional journeys

China witnessed a historic travel surge during the eight-day National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, with 888 million domestic tourist trips and 2.43 billion cross-regional journeys, according to data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Transport. This is reported by

The transport system saw record-breaking passenger volumes across all modes. Railways handled 153 million trips, averaging over 19 million daily; air travel exceeded 19 million passengers, up 3.4 per cent year-on-year; while road networks carried more than 2.25 billion passengers, reflecting a 6.5 per cent rise.

Civil aviation recorded unprecedented demand, with airlines increasing routes and capacity to meet rising international travel interest. Border crossings exceeded 2 million per day, driven by visa-free policies and restored global connectivity. Moreover, domestic tourism revenue reached around US$113.8 billion.
