Vehicle production and sales in China exceeded 34 million units in 2025, reaching historic highs. The data were published by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), the Belt and Road News Network, a partner of TV BRICS, reports.
Production amounted to 34.531 million vehicles, up 10.4 per cent year on year. Sales reached 34.4 million units, representing a year-on-year increase of 9.4 per cent. China has ranked first globally in these indicators for 17 consecutive years.
Production and sales of passenger vehicles in China exceed the 30 million mark. At the same time, the share of Chinese brands in total sales rose to 69.5 per cent, up 4.3 percentage points compared to 2024.
The segment of new energy vehicles is growing particularly rapidly. Their production increased by 29 per cent to 16.626 million units, while sales rose by 28.2 per cent to 16.49 million. China has been the world leader in these indicators for 11 years.
China’s vehicle exports in 2025 exceeded 7 million units, including 2.615 million new energy vehicles.
“In 2025, China’s automotive industry continued to demonstrate high resilience and vitality. A number of indicators in this sector reached new highs,” said CAAM Deputy Secretary-General Chen Shihua.
In his view, growth was driven by the government vehicle replacement (“trade-in”) programme, the expansion of model ranges and sustained consumer demand.
