China to increase its grain production this summer

The National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration predicts that China will produce more summer grains this year

With more than 20 per cent of the entire yearly grain production coming from wheat, the summer harvest season in China is the first in terms of grain production. The summer harvest season has officially begun in the southwest Chinese wheat-growing regions. This is reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

The source claims that initial projections indicate that approximately 70 million metric tonnes of summer grain will be purchased at the busiest time of year, a marginal increase over the previous year. Specifically, purchases of wheat will total approximately 63 million metric tonnes.

Experts stress that the government will carefully coordinate purchases based on market conditions and will coordinate local officials’ efforts to guarantee the availability of basic production factors through the expansion of grain storage facilities, the augmentation of procurement funds, and the guarantee of effective transportation.

According to the data, the six major Chinese provinces that produce wheat have a storage capacity of almost 80 million metric tonnes. In all regions, there is a strong market order, sufficient storage space, sufficient funds for procurement, well-functioning logistics and transport, and all necessary preparations have been made for the purchase of summer grain.
