China’s Ministry of Natural Resources announces new successes in developing its maritime economy

The country has signed co-operation agreements with more than 50 countries in this area

China has made new progress in developing its marine economy, Sun Shuxian, Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Head of the State Oceanic Administration, said during a speech in Xiamen on the occasion of the 16th World Oceans Day.

According to official data, the marine economy accounts for about 8 per cent of China’s GDP. In 2023, the total marine economy will reach 9.9 trillion yuan (US$1,3 trillion).

The country’s Ministry of Natural Resources reports that in the first quarter of this year, foreign trade container turnover at Chinese ports rose 11 per cent year-on-year thanks to a recovery in external demand. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

As Sun Shuxian reminded, China had earlier signed cooperation agreements with more than 50 countries and international organisations in the maritime economy.
