China’s oil and gas production reached a record level in 2023

In particular, offshore crude oil production reached 62 million tonnes

According to the National Energy Administration, China’s combined crude oil and natural gas production in 2023 was projected to surpass 390 million tonnes of oil equivalent, setting a new historical record.

On January 9, an officialnamed Liu Hong from the office reported that China’s crude oil output for the previous year had reached 208 million tonnes, showing a growth of over 3 million tonnes compared to 2022. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Liu also highlighted a substantial increase in production, with nearly 19 million tonnes more than the previous year’s level.

It is worth mentioning that the growth in offshore crude oil production contributed to over 60 percent of the overall oil production surge in the country (62 million tonnes). The production of shale oil achieved a record-breaking milestone, surpassing 4 million tonnes.

Furthermore, Liu informed that China’s natural gas production has consistently and steadily increased by 10 billion cubic meters each year for the past seven years, reaching 230 billion cubic meters in the previous year.
