China’s social logistics value increases by 5.6 per cent in first half of 2025

Growth is driven by industrial output, high-tech manufacturing, and domestic consumption

China’s total value of social logistics reached 171.3 trillion yuan (US$23.87 trillion) in the first half of 2025, representing a 5.6 per cent year-on-year increase, according to data released by the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP).

The growth outpaced the country’s GDP expansion during the same period by 0.3 percentage points, highlighting the continued strength of logistics demand as a key contributor to overall economic activity, as reported by
Global Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Industrial logistics, which accounted for 85 per cent of the total growth, rose by 5.8 per cent in the first six months of the year. The CFLP noted that logistics related to equipment manufacturing increased by 10.9 per cent, while logistics for high-tech manufacturing grew by 9.7 per cent. Demand linked to 3D printing equipment and industrial robots saw increases of over 20 per cent year-on-year.

The report also pointed to improved integration of digital technologies with traditional industries as a driver of logistics growth, particularly in emerging sectors.

Import-related logistics activity showed signs of recovery in the second quarter. Bulk commodity shipments such as crude oil and iron ore rebounded, and imports of semiconductor chips rose by 8.9 per cent year-on-year in the first half.

Consumer logistics also expanded, supported by policies aimed at boosting domestic demand. Logistics volume for household goods rose by 6.1 per cent year-on-year, an acceleration from the first quarter.
