Chinese manufacturers promote equipment upgrades to maximise cost efficiency and move towards green economy

Since the start of this year, China has vigorously carried out an extensive project for production equipment renewal and trading-in of consumer goods

The National Development and Reform Commission, China’s top economic planner, estimates that the country’s strong demand for modern equipment is creating a huge market worth more than 5 trillion yuan (US$710 billion), and investment in seven key sectors, including industry and agriculture, is expected to increase by more than 25 per cent annually.

Steel mills and building material producers, as the biggest energy consumers, are at the forefront of the renewal efforts.

One steel plant in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province, China, is reducing the length of its advanced production line from 800-1200 metres to 50 metres, resulting in a 95 per cent reduction in energy and 80 per cent reduction in water consumption. Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced to a quarter of those of the outdated production lines. This is reported by
CCTV+, a partner of TV BRICS.

A ceramics company in Foshan, a key economic centre in southern China’s Guangdong province, claims to be leading the way in digital transformation and efficiency improvements following a kiln upgrade.

A large-scale upgrade of production equipment can boost investment, modernisation and digital transformation in the industry, experts say.
