Chinese scientist is announced as the winner of the 2024 Global Energy Prize

He proposed solutions to technical problems connected with green energy sources

One of the winners of the 2024 Global Energy Prize is Minggao Ouyang, a professor at Tsinghua University (China).

He is leading in the category New Ways of Energy Application for solving technical problems connected to the durability of hydrogen fuel cells, the safety of lithium-ion batteries, and the interaction of vehicles with the grid.

The ceremony announcing the laureates was held in Volgograd, Russia, with the participation of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Rae Kwon Chung, members of the International Award Committee of the Global Energy Prize William Byun (Singapore), Li Xiao (China), and Dmitry Bessarabov (South Africa), as well as the President of the Association Sergey Brilev.

TV BRICS is the media partner for the event.

“We should not stop bilateral cooperation based only on the economy of today. The Global Energy Prize speaks of a larger component, in my opinion. This is the energy of movement: where we will move, how we will develop, how we will cooperate, what kind of interactions we will have in the cultural sphere, in the sphere of education, science,… Who could imagine that a Nobel laureate would give a lecture to our students? That professor, whom the whole world knows, would meet our children and speak the same language? They are really good at understanding each other, taking on issues together, and energising. It is important for us to be energised by their views and by the expert decisions we make,” said Andrey Bocharov, Governor of the Volgograd Region, at the ceremony.

The laureates were selected by an international award committee consisting of scientists from 13 countries, including Bolivia, China, India, the UAE, Russia, and South Africa.

“Research aimed at improving the efficiency of existing energy sources and utilising new ones has brought together the greatest scientists from all over the world,” said Sergey Brilev, president of the Global Energy Association.

It was also announced at the ceremony that Alexander Mikhalevich, scientific director of the Institute of Power Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was awarded the Diploma of Honour “for his outstanding contribution to the scientific substantiation of nuclear power development.”

The award ceremony will traditionally take place within the framework of the international forum “Russian Energy Week”,  which will be held in Moscow from September 26 to 28, 2024.
