Closing ceremony of 7th BRICS International Festival of Theatre Schools is held at Russia Exhibition and Forum
The event was dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin
The closing ceremony of the 7th BRICS International Festival of Theatre Schools was held at the exhibition-forum “Russia” at VDNKh. It was attended by artists from India, China, South Africa, Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, as well as from Belarus. TV BRICS is the international media partner of the event.
The festival, organised by the Institute of Theatre Art named after People’s Artist of the USSR I. D. Kobzon, was held from 1 to 8 June with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
For eight days, the artists demonstrated their own versions of Pushkin’s production of The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish in their native language without translation. This allowed the guests of the exhibition to get acquainted with the peculiarities of the culture of the BRICS countries and Belarus. The culmination of the event was a large joint performance in the format “Playing Together!” – representatives of all the countries participating in the festival performed on one stage.
“For the last three years we have been meeting online. And now we are here in Russia, in Moscow. Delegations from Iran and the United Arab Emirates have joined us,” said Dmitry Tomilin, rector of the Institute of Theatre Art named after People’s Artist of the USSR I. D. Kobzon. He explained that the festival was dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin.
BRICS International Festival of Theatre Schools has been held in Russia since 2017. The initiative is aimed at manifesting and developing friendly ties between the student youth of the BRICS countries and Belarus.
