Colombia to be able to export exotic flower species to Brazil

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Brazil is the second largest consumer of flowers in Latin America with an annual demand of about one billion dollars.

The flowers of Protea spp. – are an exotic species. They are characterised by their bright colours and spectacular shape and are very popular in Brazil as flower arrangements, event decorations and as gifts. This is reported by
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The phytosanitary requirements agreed upon by the two countries demand that cut flowers must be packed in primary packaging, without soil. Besides, the products must have a certification issued by the National Plant Protection Organisation.

The Brazilian government will verify that shipments are subject to inspection at the point of entry by a phytosanitary inspectorate, as well as sampling for analysis in laboratories accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
