Day of BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro declared as public holiday

Municipal employees will also have the day off on 4 July

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes signed a law establishing Monday, 7 July, as a public holiday in the city. The decision is related to the BRICS summit on 6–7 July, which will be attended by heads of state and government from more than 20 countries, according to
Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

The city government has also declared Friday, 4 July, a day off for municipal institutions. This is due to the preparation and holding of official events, including a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the group’s member countries.

The events will take place at iconic locations in Rio de Janeiro: the ministers’ meeting will be held at a hotel on Avenida Atlantica in the Copacabana district, and the summit meetings will be held at the Museum of Modern Art in Flamengo Park.

Brazil chairs BRICS in 2025. The country has already hosted the summit of the association’s member states in 2010, 2014, and 2019.
