Delegation from Latin America is introduced to principles of electric transport in Moscow

Low-carbon public transport is a new phenomenon for many countries in the region

A delegation of engineers, researchers and analysts from Latin America and the Caribbean visited Moscow. Participants of the international internship programme “Changing Energy Landscape” got acquainted with the principles of electric buses in the Russian capital. The interns were shown charging stations for these innovative modes of transport.

New modes of transport help to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. In this way, the programme participants learned how passenger transport is included in the Russian capital’s transition to low-carbon energy.

“This is my first trip on an electric bus. It’s very quiet, with a smooth ride. So I’m really impressed. In my country, there are only conventional buses. I think it is very important to promote this environmentally friendly transport,” Diego Ruiz from El Salvador, a participant of the international internship programme, shared his impressions.

According to Facundo Segale, an intern from Argentina, electric transport is a new phenomenon for many Latin American countries. These technologies will shape the future of passenger transport.

In addition to the business track, the trainees had a rich cultural programme. The foreign specialists visited the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, where they visited the 17th century palace of Tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich.

In addition, in the Tretyakov Gallery the guests saw masterpieces of Russian culture, from medieval icon painting to the works of classical painters and works by artists of the XX century.

Another important part of the cultural programme was the Museum of the Special Purpose Garage of the Federal Security Service of Russia at VDNKh, where the trainees were shown more than 50 unique examples of historical cars and motorbikes used by the first persons of the state, from Emperor Nicholas II to the leaders of modern Russia.

The internship for energy sector specialists will take place from 29 July to 26 August 2024 in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The programme is implemented by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund together with the St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON) and TV BRICS International Media Network in partnership with the Russian Energy Agency of the Russian Ministry of Energy and the Global Energy Association.
