Dubai launches nationwide volunteer culture initiative as part of 2025 Year of Community
Dubai recorded over one million volunteer hours in 2024
The UAE has launched an initiative aimed at promoting a culture of volunteering and enhancing social engagement across all segments of society. The initiative, unveiled as part of the national “Year of Community 2025,” seeks to raise awareness of the value of volunteerism and empower individuals and institutions to contribute actively to national development, as reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
The new project provides a comprehensive platform to familiarise citizens and residents with the principles of volunteer work, relevant regulatory bodies, and the rights and responsibilities of volunteers. It is designed to encourage participation across all age groups and to foster a strong sense of civic duty.
Dubai recorded over one million volunteer hours in 2024, reflecting a marked increase in community awareness and a growing culture of giving. According to official statistics, nearly 59,000 volunteers are currently registered, with more than 18,000 individuals contributing over 500,000 hours in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
Specialised volunteering has also seen notable growth, with more than 100 opportunities in various fields. Around 500 volunteers contributed over 8,000 hours of specialised service.
In the cultural sphere, Dubai also announced the “Volunteer Leadership Hub,” a training programme to certify volunteer leaders, alongside initiatives that reinforce national identity, including sessions on traditional Emirati values and heritage-focused reading circles.
