Dumisani Khumalo expected to focus on SAPS operational matters at Madlanga Commission appearance

Criminal Intelligence chief Dumisani Khumalo is expected to focus on operational and administrative matters in the SAPS when he testifies before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Monday.

Khumalo, who was arrested in June, appeared in court on allegations of fraud and corruption.

He was arrested after landing at the OR Tambo International Airport alongside six co-accused, all senior police officers.

They are linked to an ongoing investigation into the alleged abuse of intelligence funds and potentially unlawful appointments within the SAPS.

General Khumalo, who has led the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), is a central figure in the Commission which is looking into corruption and political interference in law enforcement agencies. Justice Madlanga has confirmed Khumalo’s appearance on Monday at 9:30am.

Meanwhile, Former President Thabo Mbeki has welcomed KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi exposing the rot in the country.

Mkhwanazi’s allegations of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu having links with crime syndicates are among the issues probed at the Madlanga Commission.

Mbeki spoke on the sidelines of the African National Congress (ANC) political school in Durban, for members of the provincial and regional task teams responsible for the renewal of the party after last year’s general elections.
