EAEU and India accelerate Free Trade Area talks

On 15 September, a meeting in New Delhi marked a new step forward in the discussions between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and India regarding the creation of a Free Trade Area. This is reported by
BelTA, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the meeting, Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, and Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, outlined a clear roadmap aimed at fast-tracking the negotiations.

The ministers agreed to hold the first round of discussions in early November 2025, which will focus on key aspects of the future trade agreement. Ahead of the talks, intensive consultations will take place between the EAEU Commission, Indian partners, and member states of the EAEU.

This initiative follows a decision by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on 26 December 2016 to begin negotiations with India on a free trade agreement. The renewed momentum reflects both parties’ commitment to expanding their economic cooperation, with plans for regular ministerial engagements to ensure robust support for the negotiation process, as reported by the source.

Experts see the creation of a Free Trade Area between the EAEU and India as a vital step in enhancing trade relations, fostering investment, and boosting economic growth across the region.
