The Eurasian Economic Commission has approved an expanded list of goods subject to mandatory labelling across the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), bringing tea, coffee and several other product categories under a unified identification system.
According to
Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS, the decision reflects a broader effort to modernise trade regulation and enhance transparency in the circulation of goods within the bloc. In addition to tea and coffee, the updated list includes cocoa products, paints and coatings, children’s toys and selected construction materials.
Under the new framework, all listed goods will be subject to harmonised labelling standards across EAEU member states. At the same time, national authorities retain the flexibility to determine the timing and implementation procedures for introducing the system domestically. Governments are required to notify the Commission at least six months in advance of any rollout.
According to Andrey Slepnev, Minister in charge of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the expansion signals continued development of a common traceability system designed to ensure product authenticity and improve market conditions for compliant producers.
The labelling of newly added categories will follow standardised rules based on the union’s core technological model, originally adopted in 2019. This approach is intended to ensure consistency and interoperability across national systems.
A key feature of the updated mechanism is the mutual recognition of labelling codes among member states. This provision eliminates the need for re-labelling goods traded within the union, facilitating smoother cross-border movement and reducing administrative burdens for exporters.
